Open Lapping

Open Lapping is available to any driver with a valid and current Driver’s License. Participating vehicles must meet our Vehicle Tech Inspection requirements. Convertibles that are not listed on our Convertible Approved List must have a 4-point roll bar. Drivers participating in Open Lapping are expected to understand track etiquette (including passing) and flag meanings.

Attendance to the Drivers Meeting at 2:45PM is required.

PDX

Presented by DSX Motorsports

PPIR’s PDX program is designed for drivers who are new to Open Lapping Days at a race track. Participants of PDX will receive classroom instruction and one-on-one pit lane coaching. Upon completion, drivers will be prepared to participate at any Open Lapping Day at any race track. Drivers will learn the specifics of performance driving including seat position, drive line, apexes, braking zones, passing, track etiquette and flag meanings. Additionally, drivers will build confidence in car handling and better understand the limits of their personal vehicles.

 

*Convertibles not on our Convertible Approved List must have a 4-point roll bar or safer in order to participate in Open Lapping or PDX.
Spectators are welcomed free of charge. No Passengers allowed on track.*

Ticket Types

Open Lapping – Advanced Driver

Advanced Drivers understand Track Etiquette and the Flag communications.Advanced Drivers are experienced with Open Passing. Point-Bys are not required in the Advanced Driver Session. Passing can take place anywhere on the road course.
PPIR may move you up or down a run group session depending on your on-track driving behavior.

Open Lapping – Intermediate Driver: 

Intermediate Drivers understand Track Etiquette and the Flag communications. Intermediate Drivers are only allowed point-by passing with safety in mind.
PPIR may move you up or down a run group session depending on your on-track driving behavior.

PDX: Open Lapping w/ Instruction – Novice Driver: 

PPIR’s PDX program is designed for drivers who are new to Open Lapping Days at a race track. Participants of PDX will receive classroom instruction and one-on-one pit lane coaching. Vehicle Technical Inspection

This Vehicle Tech Inspection ensures the safety of the driver and attendees. The safety and PPIR activity worthiness of a vehicle is the driver’s responsibility. The following vehicle inspection is required prior to any PPIR activity.

All vehicles must be presented ready to race. All vehicles must pass the self technical inspection prior to entering the racing surface.  It is the responsibility of each individual to make certain that his or her vehicle is track worthy.  PPIR reserves the right at ANY TIME during the event to not allow any vehicle on track which it deems to be unsafe or unsuited for track driving. The following items should be thoroughly inspected/set before arriving to the raceway:

  • Tires (good tread depth, sidewalls clear of damage, valve stems, etc.) must be no more than 5 years old
  • Tire pressures are properly set (refer to vehicle manufacturer settings)
  • All lug nuts are present and torque is set (refer manufacturer specifications)
  • Hubcaps and trimmings (if not secured by lug nuts) are removed from vehicle
  • No play in wheel bearings
  • Minimal play in steering linkage
  • Brake system in good condition (pads, rotors, lines, etc.)
  • Fluid levels are set (Engine oil, transmission fluid, power steering, coolant, brake fluid, etc.)
  • No fluid leaks from the vehicle of any kind
  • Vehicle is free of loose items (including the trunk)
  • Battery is properly secured
  • No exposed electrical wires
  • Hoses and lines are securely fastened and routed properly and safely
  • Fully functional seat belts in good condition (factory stock or better required)
  • Vehicle interior / exterior must be free and clear of sharp exposed edges
  • No part of the vehicle can be dragging on the ground.

Upon entering the gate, you will receive a Tech Card to fill out. The Tech Card must be turned in to PPIR Staff at the starting grid area prior to making the first lap of the day. The PPIR Staff will put a Tech Sticker on the windshield of the car after receiving the tech card filled out.

MEET PPIR’S LEAD INSTRUCTOR

Ryan Dussex is a Pro Time Attack and Endurance driver. Over the years, Dussex has competed in numerous national racing series including: GRIDLIFE, Super Lap Battle, Global Time Attack, Hyperfest, NASA, 24HR Lemons, and WRL Enduro events. He has found his home at Pikes Peak International Raceway, where he is expanding the grassroots motorsports community and caters directly to aspiring and experienced drivers alike. Dussex is an SCCA Board Member, a Time Trials Program Director, a Track Night in America Event Manager and a Lead Instructor for SCCA, NASA and GRIDLIFE. Additionally, he is a co-host of the popular Flatirons Motorsports Syndicate Podcast that reaches over 50,000 listeners annually. A worthy competitor, Dussex holds several track records and numerous awards
